BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky got off to a quick start, sweeping all three doubles matches, on the way to a 4-3 women's tennis victory over West Alabama on Saturday.
West Alabama split the six singles matches, with
Helga Jeske,
Jill Furlong and
Emily Gerding winning. Jeske beat Madeline Phillips (6-4, 6-1), Furlong defeated Carolina Barboza (6-3, 6-4) and Gerding took care of Alex Crofford (4-6, 6-4, 7-6).
“
Emily Gerding and
Jill Furlong played like you would expect seniors to play, setting us up to steal a win,” UWA head coach
Glen Fanelli said. “We just fell short by a little bit.”
The Tigers fall to 16-8 with the loss and finish their three-match swing through Kentucky in Louisville against Bellarmine on Sunday.
