Benny Burtram was a two-sport Tiger letterman, playing football from 1969-70 and baseball from 1969-72. He scored 105 points during his career on the gridiron, and helped lead West Alabama to the NAIA Baseball World Series in 1970, finishing his career with a .385 batting average. He was a three-time baseball All-American and a four-time All-Conference and NAIA All-District 27 selection. He also spearheaded the fundraising drive for a new gymnasium in his hometown of Corner, Ala. The facility was named the "Benny Burtram Gymnasium" by the Jefferson County Board of Education in recognition of his service to the Corner Community.
