Carvel Rowell played both football and baseball for West Alabama from 1962-66. Rowell ranked third in the nation for football in total offense in 1966 and led the Tigers in hitting four years. Rowell was All-Conference in both sports and led the Tigers to three straight conference crowns in baseball. He signed a free-agent contract with the Houston Oilers in 1966. He later coached nine years at the high school level, winning a State Championship in football at Excel High School in 1969 and a State Championship in baseball at Thomasville High in 1972.
