Clemit Spruiell, a native of Sulligent, Ala., played football at UWA from 1968-71 and led the Tigers to a Gulf South Conference Title and a NAIA National Championship as a senior captain in 1971. That same season, he was voted GSC Offensive player of the Year, First Team All-GSC, Second Team NAIA All-American and MVP of the Tiger's National Semifinal victory over West Liberty State. He held the school record for years for the highest completion percentage in a career (55.2) and is a charter member of the Lamar County (Ala.) Athletic Hall of Fame.
