He spent the bulk of his playing time at UWA at shortstop, and saw limited action out of the Tiger bullpen. He hit .297, including 10 doubles and two triples as a junior. As a senior, he hit .208 and fielded .940, while tossing 7.1 innings on his way to picking up two saves and helping lead the Tigers to a South Central Regional Title and a World Series appearance. He was scouted at the Division II World Series as a pitcher and signed with the New York Yankees. He made his major league debut on May 2, 1997. He spent ten years in the major leagues with 30 wins and 52 saves.
