A Rawlings/ABCA and NCBWA All-American as both a relief pitcher and first baseman, Tanner Rainey also earned All-Region and All-GSC honors while helping lead the Tigers to the 2015 GSC regular and postseason championships. He was drafted by Cincinnati Reds in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft, the 71st player taken overall and is currently a relief pitcher for the World Champion Washington Nationals. Rainey made four relief appearances in the 2019 World Series for the Nationals. He holds the UWA single season home run record with 19 in 2015, including hitting three in the 2015 league title game. Rainey played in 91 games in two seasons at UWA and was a .331 career hitter with 27 doubles, three triples, 73 runs scored and 24 home runs. He made 41 relief pitching appearances, posting a 7-1 record with 15 saves, which is fourth on the UWA career list. With a 1.28 career earned run average he allowed just 23 hits while striking out 79 in 49.1 career innings pitched.
