Tony Holmes, a native of Lowndesboro, Ala., played football at UWA in 1971 and from 1973-75 at offensive guard. Holmes was a member of the 1971 NAIA National Championship team and the 1975 team that finished third in the nation. He was named All-GSC in 1973 and 1975 and was a member of UWA’s Team of the Decade for the 1970’s. He was an Honorable-Mention All-American in 1975, and was the recipient of the “Phil Puccio” Award, which goes to the football player that demonstrates the most leadership and dedication each season.
