Tigers Fall 6-2 to Lindenwood in Soccer Action

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team dropped its second straight contest with a 6-2 loss to Lindenwood University on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. UWA falls to 6-8 on the season while LU improves to 8-3-2.

The Lions jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Brittany Noble and Bailey Cody in the first 17 minutes of action. Noble's goal came on a rebound off of a free kick from Bridget Moriarty while Bailey's came on an assist from Emily Winchell.

UWA pulled within a goal in the 21st minute as Nicloa Gibson placed a ball in the left corner. The goal is Gibson's fourth of the season and places her in a tie for second on the team with Natalie Perry and two goals behind Nicki Gears with six.

LU regained its two goal lead heading into the locker room as Courtney Bresnahan scored inside 28 minutes on a breakaway up the middle of the field.

The Lions added three goals within the first 12 minutes of the second stanza to widen their lead to 6-1 with Bresnahan and Cody adding their second goals of the day during the half. Emily Winchell posted her first goal of the outing in the 52nd minute to begin the scoring for the Lions.

UWA tallied its second goal of the game to close out the scoring as Thais Hollerbach tapped a shot past LU keeper Erin Sage off a corner kick from Callie Eisenhart in the 87th minute.

The Tigers had few opportunities in the contest with only four shot attempts. The Black and Gold ripped off 14 shots, including 11 on goal.

Jess Martin (6-8) was saddled with the loss in net, recording five saves in the outing with four coming in the first half. Jade Davis – LU's starter in goal – picked up the win with no saves in the first 78 minutes while Sage played the final 12 of the contest – also without a save attempt.

West Alabama returns to GSC action on Monday, Oct. 17 as the Tigers host instate foe North Alabama. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
