Tiger Soccer Wraps Up First Season on Saturday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team closes out the 2011 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 29 in non-conference action against Palm Beach Atlantic. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon at Tiger Stadium with live stats available at www.uwaathletics.com.

The Red and White - which is 5-5 in non-conference affairs this season - looks to snap a four-game skid to close out its inaugural season and pick up its fifth win at home.

Freshman Nicki Gears continues to impress in her first season with the squad. The Ripon Yorkshire native has posted a team-best eight goals on the campaign while tying for second on the team in assists with two. The goal total is tied for fifth in the Gulf South Conference. Gears has scored a goal in the four of the last seven contests, including one in the last two outings. Vicky Petrova stands alone as the team leader in assists with eight – which ranks fourth among conference leaders.

PBA (6-7-1) enters the contest after snapping a three-game losing streak last weekend in a 7-0 victory over Chowan. The Sailfish are led by Marianne Harnes and Meagan Phillips with three goals each. Harnes also leads the team in assists with four on the season.
