Tigers Out Shoot YHC; Fall 2-0

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Despite leading in shots and corner kicks on the night, the University of West Alabama women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Young Harris College on Friday afternoon. The Tigers (3-6) posted 11 shots - seven on goal – compared to YHC's 10 shots.

UWA posted a total of 10 corner kicks in the contest as the Mountain Lions (7-2) attempted just one corner in the outing.

Nicki Gears led the team in shots with three – all coming on goal for the Red and White. Giselle Rios and Vicky Petrova also fired all multiple shots with two each. Lydia Sutcliffe, Sam Cable, Nicola Gibson and Natalie Perry each tallied a shot in the setback as well.

Jess Martin (3-6) is saddled with the loss in goal with four saves in the outing. Kelsey Cunningham improves to 7-2 in net with seven saves on the evening.

YHC picked up its first goal in the 10th minute as Emily Villas set up Kaylin Canup for her second goal of the season. The Red and White would hold the Mountain Lions to the solo goal until the 41st minute of the contest when Villas scored her fourth goal of the season – giving the Purple and Gray a 2-0 margin at the intermission.

The Tigers came out with an offensive game plan to start the second stanza as the Red and White challenged YHC with four consecutive corners in the opening minutes of the half, but were unable to get a shot past Cunningham. UWA attempted seven shots in the second half.

West Alabama returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 2 as the Tigers host LaGrange College in the Kolh's American Cup. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
