LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Despite having their season end last weekend in the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament, the University of West Alabama men's tennis team moved up 10 spots to No. 27 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings.
The climb is likely due to a 23-4 final record and a runner-up finish in the Gulf South Conference Tournament and a No. 6 seed in a very tough South Region.
Nestor Vargas, who played No. 1 singles for the Tigers in 2013, is currently ranked 36
th nationally. Vargas, a junior from Bogota, Columbia, is the first Tiger player to earn a national ITA ranking this season.
