Veronica Ryan was named women's assistant basketball coach on May 20, 2019. She replaces Coretta Brown, who left UWA to take an assistant coaching position at Georgia Southern University.

Ryan comes to West Alabama from the College of Central Florida. She was an assistant coach the last two seasons and handled interim head coaching duties since March at the Florida junior college located in Ocala.

Ryan began her playing career at Palm Beach State College, where she earned first-team all-state and first-team all-conference while serving as team captain at the Lake Worth, Florida Junior College.

After PBSC, she signed with Nicholls State (La.) University before finishing her playing career at Georgia College and State University, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in 2017.

After fighting through six knee surgeries in seven years and waiting three years to begin her time as a collegiate basketball player, Ryan served a unique role in her final year at Georgia College as a student/player assistant coach.

Ryan was also a participant (2017) and panelist (2018) in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "So You Want to Be a Coach" program. She also served as a high school assistant and AAU coach.

She has won the National  Community Service Award, worked as a Special Olympics Basketball Coach, a Boys and Girls Club Volunteer, and a Camp Patriot Basketball Counselor.
