Tigers Travel to West Florida to Open GSC Play

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing streak as UWA (3-12) opens Gulf South Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 7 at West Florida. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Action from the GSC lid-lifter can be followed via live stats, live video and audio at athletics.uwa.edu. The game will be broadcasted on FOX Sports, WSLY 104.9-FM.

The Tigers dropped a pair of contests at Henderson State (70-57) and Ouachita Baptist (78-65) to open the 2010 portion of the basketball schedule.

Latashia Greer leads the way for the Tigers averaging 20.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this season. Greer, a Dadeville, Ala.-junior, garnered her first GSC East Division Player of the Week award of the season with a stellar performance in the Red and White's last five outings. The forward has tallied 20-plus points in the last four outings for the Red and White and has led the Tigers in scoring in all six games on the floor this season. Greer carded a career-high 29 points in UWA's 64-60 win over Southern Arkansas in the UWF Holiday Classic and locked up her second career double-double in the performance with 10 rebounds. Her first double-double also came against the Lady Riders in a 57-55 loss to SAU in Livingston in which she logged 13 points and 10 boards. Greer averaged 26 points and nine rebounds in the two-day UWF Holiday Classic, earning her All-Tournament Team honors.

UWF enters the contest having dropped its last outing to No. 15 Clayton State, 70-59. The setback ended a four-game win streak for the Argos, who are 9-5 on the season. Amy Drake paces UWF with 16.6 points per game and is one of three for the Argos with a team-leading 4.2 rebounds per game.

Following West Alabama's contest in Pensacola, Fla., the Tigers return to Pruitt Hall on Thursday, Jan. 14 to host North Alabama. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
