VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Alabama men's tennis team bowed out of the 2010 NCAA Tournament with a 5-0 setback to Valdosta State in the second round of the NCAA South I Regional hosted by the Blazers.
The Tigers conclude the season with a school-record 23 wins and claimed their first NCAA win on Thursday against UAH.
UWA fell behind 3-0 after the completion of doubles play and the Blazers claimed the final two points at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
The Red and White tandem of Lucas Nunes and Wade Covington dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 1 to Michael Kuech and Philip Pakebusch. The duo of Benny Delgado Rochas and Lucas Cruz fell 8-1 to VSU's pairing of Daniel Dueren and Christian Hansen. At No. 3, the Tiger set of James Gardner and Juan Felipe Tellez were ousted by Otto Lenhart and Frank Sickman by the identical score.
In singles, Tellez was bounced in straight sets by Dueren 6-0, 6-2, while Covington dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Konstantin Kutschenko.
The Blazers will face Lynn University on Saturday, May 8 for the regional crown. The winner advances to the Round of 16 in Altamonte Park, Fla. on May 12-15.
