LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team will host West Florida on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Pruitt Hall, and the team will be attempting to start the season with a better record than any other team in program history. The Tigers currently sit at 13-2 (1-0 GSC) and have won nine straight.
Saturday's win over Lambuth allowed this season's squad to match the 2001-02 team's start for the best ever at UWA.
The Red and White boast that nation's third-leading scorer in Mystee Dale who is averaging 21.7 points per game, just one tenth of a point behind the second best. The Laurel, Miss. native had her string of five consecutive Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors snapped this week, but she remains among the best in the GSC as she is ranked in the top 10 in nearly every statistical category.
Dale will be looking to help UWA maintain its advantage in the all-time series with the Argos as the team is 25-18 against West Florida. The two squads split the season series a year ago as each defended its home court.
Looking to earn its first conference win, UWF enters Thursday with a 7-9 (0-2 GSC) record. The Argos have dropped four in a row including losses to Alabama in Huntsville and North Alabama to open conference play.
Sher'Ryan Scott and Octavia Bearden lead West Florida as both average just over 10 points per contest.
Live stats and a video webcast for the contest will be available at Gameday Central on www.uwaathletics.com.
