UWA Soccer Returns to GSC Action; Welcomes UNA to Tiger Stadium

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team (6-8, 1-3 GSC) returns to Gulf South Conference action Monday, playing host to North Alabama at Tiger Stadium. Start time is slated for 7 p.m.

UWA enters Monday's contest hoping to bounce back from two losses last week. The Tigers fell to Christian Brothers and non-conference foe Lindenwood in a pair of mid-week contests, moving UWA's record to 6-8 overall. The Tigers did manage to pick up their first conference victory in school history last Saturday, defeating Delta State by a score of 1-0 in Cleveland, Miss.

With a 1-3 record in GSC action, UWA entertains one of the strongest teams in the conference when UNA makes its way inside Tiger Stadium. The Lions come in at 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the GSC. UNA defeated Montevallo last week, scoring three goals in four minutes to roar past the Falcons.

West Alabama is led by freshman Nicki Gears who has scored six goals in 25 shots on goal. Meanwhile, teammates Nicola Gibson and Natalie Perry each have four goals on the year.

Monday's contest will also be a homecoming of sorts for UWA head coach Graeme Orr who was an assistant coach at UNA during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Following Monday's action, the Tigers travel to Valdosta, Ga., to take on Valdosta State on Saturday. Start time for that contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
