Tiger Soccer Returns to Conference Action; Travels to Delta State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team (5-6, 0-2 GSC) hopes to return to .500 in its inaugural season this weekend when the Tigers travel to Cleveland, Miss., to take on Delta State Saturday. Start time is slated for 2 p.m.

UWA enters the match looking for the first conference win in school history after defeating Alabama State, 3-2, in overtime Wednesday night. In that contest the Tigers had built up a 2-0 lead before the Hornets stormed back to send that match in overtime. In the extra period, it was Nicki Gears who scored the winning goal.

The Tigers are led by Gears, who has team-high five goals, as well as a team-leading 21 shots on goal. Natalie Perry has also had a strong season for the Red and White, with four goals in just seven shots on goal. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Jess Martin has played every minute this season with 49 saves on the year.

Delta State enters Saturday's match with a 2-7 record overall including an 0-3 mark in conference play. The Lady Statesmen have lost four straight and have not scored a goal since a Sept. 12 win against Freed-Hardeman.

Following Saturday's contest, UWA plays a pair of mid-week matches, hosting Christian Brothers next Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. before entertaining Lindenwood on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
