DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of West Alabama tennis teams both lost on Saturday, dropping their matches at North Georgia by identical scores of 7-2. Both teams own a 2-3 record on the year.
The two points earned on the men's side came from the five and six positions as Lucas Cruz and Luis Ruiz defeated their North Georgia opponents. Cruz won 8-4 while Ruiz was an 8-4 victor. Juan Felipe Tellez played the team's other most competitive match losing 6-1 in the first set before battling, but ultimately falling, 7-5 in the second.
On the women's side, it was the four and five spots that picked up UWA's points. Katy Shoptaugh responded from a 1-6 loss in the first set by taking the next two sets by scores of 6-4, 6-2. Dasha Popova won by an 8-5 score.
The two teams will be back in action on Feb. 18 when they take on William Carey and Tougaloo.
