Tigers Lose At Home To Nationally-Ranked Cameron

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama tennis teams fell to another pair of nationally-ranked squads on Thursday as both the men's and women's teams lost 9-0 to visiting Cameron. The men now own a 6-7 record on the season while the women are 7-6.

On the cold and windy day, none of the Tigers on the men's side were able to take a set from the No. 20 Aggies, but Luis Ruiz put up the strongest effort of the afternoon as he fell 6-3 in the opening set before falling 7-5. Wade Covington was also able to take a few games from his opponent as he lost 6-2, 6-4.

In women's action, the best performance came from Dasha Popova who fell by scores of 6-3, 6-2 as the team also lost in straight sets to the No. 18 visitors.

In doubles play, both No. 1 duos for UWA took the most games from the Cameron side as Katy Shoptaugh and Emily Gerding matched the 8-4 score that was also put up by Wade Covingston and Clay Cooke.

UWA returns to action on Tuesday, March 15 when it hosts Lambuth.
