UWA Women's Soccer Falls 5-0 at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision on Sunday afternoon at the University of Montevallo's Varsity Field. The loss is the first in program history and comes on the heels of the Tigers' first win on Friday night at Tiger Stadium – a 2-1 victory over Judson College.

The Tigers attempted just three shots on the afternoon with only Nicola Gibson's shot on goal. Lydia Sutcliffe and Nicki Gears attempted the other two shots for the Red and White.

The Falcons (1-1) posted four goals in the first half including two in the first seven minutes of play. Christine Prince scored the first goal on an assist from Asgerdur Palsdottir in the fifth minute. Two minutes later Aimee Godfrey hit an unassisted shot from 35 yards out to give UM an early 2-0 lead. Camilla Alderin assisted on the next two Falcon goals as she set up Danielle Zak (34th minute) and Taylor Kerr (38th minute) to increase the lead to 4-0 at the intermission.

Prince tacked on her second goal of the match in the second half as Kerr and Melissa Bode assisted on her score in the 79th minute.

Jess Martin (1-1) took the loss in goal while recording nine saves in the match. The combination of Kaitlin Thomas, Katie Mealer and Alyssa Maxwell combined for the one save, shutout. Thomas – who recorded the lone save -received the win in goal.

West Alabama returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9 as the Tigers travel to Georgia Southwestern. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
