LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of West Alabama women's basketball looks to put to end a three-game skid as the Tigers (6-10, 1-4 GSC) travel to West Florida on Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. tip-off. The game can be heard on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.
The Red and White has claimed three of the last five outings against the Argos(6-11, 2-3 GSC), but have dropped the last two outcomes in Pensacola, Fla. UWA holds the series advantage at 23-19 as they head into the 43rd meeting between the two conference members.
UWA looks for its first road, conference win since Jan. 27, 2011 – an 80-71 overtime decision at West Georgia.
Both squads enter the conference tilt averaging 60 points per contest and shooting just above 38-percent from the field, but UWF holds a one game lead in conference play.
A pair of JUCO newcomers lead the way for the Tigers as
Brittany Weathers and
Nikkia Jordan are averaging double figures in their first season in the Red and White. Weathers, a Hattiesburg, Miss., product is scoring 14 points per outing while pulling down an average 8.9 rebounds, which stands as a team-best. Jordan is coming off a career-high 22 points in the loss against Valdosta State on Thursday. The Decatur, Ala., native is averaging 10.6 points per contest.
Sher'Ryan Scott paces a trio of Argos in double figures on the campaign with 12.7 through the first 17 games. Hanna Vette sits just behind her Fort Deposit, Ala., teammate with 12.2 points while Octavia Bearden is averaging 11.1 points per contest. Bearden, a Tylertown, Miss., native also paces the squad on the glass with 8.2 boards a game.
UWF enters Sunday's contest looking to extend its win streak following a 48-44 win at West Georgia on Thursday evening. The road victory snapped a three-game, losing streak for the Argos.
