LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Valdosta State's Rebecca Miller scored with four seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime as the University of West Alabama women's soccer team and VSU ended their match in a 1-1 tie at Tiger Stadium Friday evening.
In a game that did not count toward conference standings, UWA moves to 6-5-3 overall and remains at 4-1-1 in the Gulf South Conference for the year. VSU falls to 10-1-2 overall and stays at 3-1-1 in conference play.
It was freshman
Perri Lambert who struck first for the Tigers on Friday as she knocked in a header off the assist from fellow freshman
Katy Morris for the game's first goal. That score came just 18 minutes into the contest and set up a back-and-forth game the remainder of the way.
The Tigers held on for the slim 1-0 advantage as the squads went into the half, and UWA was content to hang on to that lead for 44 minutes and 56 seconds of the final period. Then, with four seconds to go, Miller scored off the assist from Caroline Moore to send the game into overtime.
After the brief five-minute intermission, UWA and Valdosta played through two 10-minute periods with a scoreless effort as the game ended in the 1-1 tie.
Once again, sophomore forward
Nicki Gears led her team in shots (3), while UWA finished with seven total shots on goal compared to VSU's five.
West Alabama now hosts West Georgia Sunday at 1 p.m. Coach
Graeme Orr and his team will honor the squad's lone senior, Jet Amerg, prior to opening kick.
