LIVINGSTON, Ala. – No. 4 West Florida scored two second-half goals on its way to a 3-0 victory against the University of West Alabama women's soccer team Sunday at Tiger Stadium.
Under perfect weather conditions on the UWA campus, the Tigers picked up just their second Gulf South Conference loss of the season to move to 6-7-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the GSC. With the win, West Florida improves to 14-1 and 7-0 in the conference.
UWA was able to hang tough through most of Sunday's contest, but the Argos maintained control throughout the 90 minutes of action.
West Florida jumped on the board early on when Sashana Campbell laced one into the back of the net unassisted on a breakaway goal to put her team up 1-0 at the 13-minute mark. From that point on, the match remained scoreless until midway through the second half when UWF's Brittanie Hensley scored her first goal of the season off a cross from teammate Chelsea Palmer.
Up 2-0, West Florida added to its final advantage when Shanice Monteith made a shot at the 75-minute mark to give her team the final 3-0 win.
The Tigers finished the match with five shots on goal, while UWF tallied seven on goal during the match. Argo goalkeeper Sarah Story continued her strong 2012 campaign with five saves on the day, while UWA's
Jess Martin finished with four saves.
Following Sunday's loss, West Alabama hits the road this Friday when the squad faces Valdosta State at 3:30 p.m.
