Brittany Weathers and
Tamya Thompson both recorded a double-double to lead the University of West Alabama women's basketball team to a 65-49 victory over Stillman College Thursday evening at Fair Park Arena.
The victory improved UWA to 2-0, while Stillman dropped to 0-3.
Weathers scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Thompson had 12 points and 13 boards for the Tigers, who led 32-19 at the half and by as many as 26 points late in the second half.
“We played hard and gave ourselves a chance, but made a lot of little mistakes,” UWA head coach Craig Roden said. “We were a little more careless with the basketball than we were in the season opener, but we strung together some good possessions in the second half that allowed us to open it up.”
Angel Wilson scored 14 points and Floresa Wilson had 11 rebounds to pace Stillman, who shot just 27% from the floor. UWA countered by shooting 42% from the field, including making 6-of-15 (40%) from beyond the three-point line.
The Tigers host Miles College on Tuesday at Pruitt Hall. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
