LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team prepares to close the 2011-12 regular season on a three-game win streak as the Tigers (10-14, 5-8 Gulf South Conference) travel to West Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 25 for a 1 p.m. central start against the Wolves.

UWA enters the contest after averaging 69 points in its last two outings while holding the opposition to just 59 points. A trio of Tigers has averaged double figures during the span with 15.5 coming from
Brittany Weathers. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native has nearly averaged a double-double in the last two outings with 9.5 rebounds to go along with her point total.
Joining Weathers in double digits are
Nikkia Jordan with 14 points while
Jamie Gunter has added 12 points. Jordan has paced the Tigers in conference play – leading the way with 13.2 points per game.
Synthea Reed is reaching the single-season record for blocked shots. The Union, N.J., product is four rejections from eclipsing the mark set by CaMeshia Pete during the 2001-02 season.
In Saturday's contest, the Red and White look to avenge a 2-point loss to UWG (9-15, 4-9 GSC) on Jan. 28 at Pruitt Hall. UWA shot a season-low 25.4-percent from the field while scoring a season-low 35 points. In the setback the Tigers didn't attempt a free-throw while the Red and Blue attempted eight shots from the charity stripe while connecting on six.
Shunice Hardy leads a UWG squad into the regular season finale riding a two-game skid. Hardy paces the Wolves with 14.6 points per game while Valerie Jones is averaging a team-best 5.7 rebounds. West Georgia's last two losses have come by single digits, including a 1-point loss to Valdosta State last Saturday.
Both squads come into Saturday's tilt looking for seeding in the conference tournament in Niceville, Fla. UWA sits a game behind West Florida in the fifth spot while UWG is tied with North Alabama in the sixth slot.
The 2012 GSC Tournament begins Thursday, March 1st, at The Arena in Niceville, Fla., with the GSC Champions being crowned on Sunday, March 4th. All-tournament passes are available through the UWA Athletic office (205-652-3784). GSC All Tournament passes for adults are $20 and $10 for students, but only for a limited time. After Feb. 25th, All Tournament passes will be $30 for adults and $15 for students; the daily tickets at the tournament will be $10 per session for adults and $7 per session for students.
