Tiger Tennis Teams Rolls Past Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Playing in their first matches of the season, the University of West Alabama men's and women's tennis teams finished the day Tuesday with two dominating wins over Tuskegee, winning every match played in both doubles and singles.

UWA's women's team came out strong and quickly earned the doubles point with wins at all three courts. The No. 1 Tiger tandem of Jill Furlong and Lisa Becker ousted Tuskegee's team of Shaneka Knight and Jazmine Scott, 8-1 on the first court, while the Tigers earned two 8-0 victories on the remaining two courts.

Needing just three singles wins to clinch the match, UWA easily drove past Tuskegee as Jill Furlong and Lisa Becker each earned straight-set wins at the top two courts to guide the Tigers to the 7-0 triumph.

On the men's side, it was much of the same for West Alabama as the men picked up a win on every court. The top duo of Anton Ivanov and Kike Ruiz ousted Gabriel Byrd and David Mohammed 8-2, while the remaining Tiger tandems picked up 8-1 wins on courts two and three to pick up the doubles point.

In men's singles action, UWA picked up four straight sets wins on the top four courts for the dominating 7-0 victory.

Next up, UWA faces Tougaloo on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Tougaloo, Ala.
