PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 1 seed and host-school West Florida proved to be too much for the University of West Alabama men's team as the Argos topped UWA, 5-0, at the Ralph Carson Tennis Complex.
With the loss, West Alabama's run in the NCAA Tournament comes to end after two matches. The Tigers had advanced with a dominating, 5-0, win over Ft. Valley on Saturday before recording their second loss of the season to the Argos on Sunday.
“I thought everyone played extremely well for our team today,” said UWA head coach Glenn Fanelli. “West Florida was just too much for our squad and I wish them the best of luck the rest of the way.”
West Florida jumped on the Tigers with three impressive wins on the doubles courts to draw within two victories of claiming the match. A team that is strong at the top of the lineup, the Argos used two wins at the top two courts from No. 9 ranked Kevin Ducros and No. 12 ranked Bruno Savi to clinch the 5-0 triumph.
West Alabama finishes the year with an 18-6 record after falling in the semifinals of the GSC Tournament and the second round of the NCAA Tourney.
