FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team fell to in-state and Gulf South Conference foe No. 21 North Alabama, 4-0, Friday at UNA's Soccer Complex.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 2-3 and 0-1 in the GSC standings. The Lions improve to 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in the conference.
A goal at the 3:14 mark by UNA's Chloe Richards, her first of the season, set the tone early in the contest as the Lions jumped out quickly on UWA. Just five minutes later, teammate Chloe Roberts' shot then cleared the net to stake her team to the 2-0 lead.
With another scored just before halftime at the 44:26 mark of the game, UNA built a sizeable lead as the Tigers saw a tough first half come to a close.
After allowing three in the first, UWA played much better in the final 45 minutes of the game. Richards capped her night off with her second score of the game at the 55:00 mark to push her squad's advantage to a 4-0 final.
West Alabama had just four shots on goal in the contest. Sophomore
Nicki Gears accounted for three of those shots as she led the team with seven total on the night.
The Tigers now return home to face Union University on Sunday at 1 p.m. Following that match, the UWA men take the field against the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m.
