UWA, Union Play to Deadlock

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Despite goals from sophomores Nicki Gears and Lydia Sutcliffe, the University of West Alabama women's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie against Union University on Sunday.

With the decision, West Alabama moves to 2-3-1 on the year, while Union's record goes to 2-2-1 this season.

The difference maker for the Bulldogs on Sunday was Dionna Linn, who scored two goals. Each of her scores came within 15 minutes of each other with her final goal putting Union up 2-1 at the 47:45 mark.

With nearly an entire half left to play, UWA responded to Linn's goal late in the contest. This time it was Nicki Gears who picked up her eighth score of the season at the 75:51 mark to knot the match up at 2-2.

With just over 14 minutes to go, neither team could put much together in the final minutes as the two squads headed to overtime.

That play carried over into the two 10-minute periods where neither Union nor the Tigers could get a shot to fall in. Perhaps UWA's best shot came off of Vicky Petrova who hit the crossbar with under a minute to go.

West Alabama now hosts Delta State Friday at 5 p.m.
