LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's soccer teams continue their respective home stands to start the 2012 seasons with a pair of matches Friday at Tiger Stadium.
Having won its first two games of the year, the women's team hosts Shorter at 5 p.m., followed by the men's match against Talladega at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to attend with students able to earn points towards UWA's Student Rewards Program.
Fans and students alike have been entertained throughout the first portion of the home slate with the women's team outscoring their opponents 19-1 and the men holding a 2-1 record after a narrow 1-0 loss to defending NCAA Tournament participant Montevallo on Wednesday.
Part of UWA's success on the women's side has been the play of sophomores
Lydia Sutcliffe and
Nicki Gears. The Tiger duo scored a first in West Alabama's two year history with two hat tricks in the same game against Judson College. Those were the second and third three-goal games in Tiger history with Gears the only Tiger to score three in a game last season.
On the men's side, UWA has seen production from several players, including
Vitor Gazza,
Thibault Charmey, and
Jonathon McLouth who lead the team with two goals scored each. Meanwhile, goalkeeper
Jack Moore has played 270 minutes and has recorded nine saves on the year.
Following Friday's action, UWA's women's team hosts Montevallo on Sunday at 1 p.m., while the men travel to Americus, Ga., to take on Georgia Southwestern at 3 p.m.
