Tigers Fall After Montevallo’s Late Second-Half Goal

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –  Montevallo's Christine Prince scored a goal at the 69:46 mark to lift the Falcons to a 2-1 win against the University of West Alabama women's soccer team (2-2) on Sunday.

It is the second-straight one-goal game the Tigers have lost in just three days after the squad fell 3-2 to Shorter in double overtime on Friday. UWA now has four days off before playing North Alabama this Friday at 7 p.m.

As they did in their match against Shorter, the Tigers played tough for the full ninety minutes. Montevallo was able to build a slim halftime lead off of Nicole Johnston's shot at the 28:03 mark to give her team the advantage.

West Alabama came out strong in the second period when Lydia Sutcliffe knocked in a shot off the post to tie the match at 1-1. The game stayed at the score until Prince's game-winning goal that her gave her team the win.

In a back-and-forth contest, both teams finished with seven shots on goal, while UM's goalkeeper Kaitlin Thomas finished with six saves and West Alabama's Jordan Papas accounted for five saves.

Following this week's match in Florence, Ala., head coach Graeme Orr's team returns home to face Union on Sunday at 1 p.m.
