UWA Cruises to 5-0 Women’s Soccer Victory over DSU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Five different West Alabama players scored a goal as the Tigers cruised to a 5-0 Gulf South Conference women's soccer victory over Delta State Friday at Tiger Stadium.
 
The victory improved  West Alabama to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in GSC play. Delta State dropped to 3-10-1 and 1-6-1 in the conference.
 
"We had a great team performance and I am delighted for Brandi Neeley to have such a productive senior night," UWA head coach Graeme Orr said. "Everybody has been working extremely hard, so it was great to see us play well as a team tonight.
 
"Hopefully we can continue to play this well going into our last two regular season matches and then into the conference tournament," Orr said. "We are playing together well right now."
 
Lauren Tate opened the scoring for West Alabama, converting a penalty kick at the ninth minute. Nicki Gears scored her 11th goal of the season 14 minutes later from Tate and the Tigers led 2-0 at the break.
 
Neeley put an exclamation point on her senior night celebration with a goal off an assist from Amy Armistead. Neeley's goal in the 50th minute gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
 
West Alabama scored a pair of goals in the 77th minute to cap off scoring. Lydia Sutcliffe notched her seventh goal of the season from Natalie Mooney and Rebekah Craig closed out West Alabama scoring with her seventh on an assist from Gears.
 
The Tigers return to the pitch Sunday at Christian Brothers before closing the regular season at home Nov. 1 against West Florida.
