Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – Union totaled 17 three pointers against the West Alabama women's basketball team to win 82-64 inside Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Thursday. The Bulldog performance was the most three point field goals and points allowed by West Alabama this season.
“We were out of sync tonight,” said UWA head coach Craig Roden. “We know that the way we have to practice right now that we are going to be a little off on Thursday games. Union is a great team and they were sharp tonight. They shot the ball extremely well.”
The loss snaps a three game win streak for West Alabama and drops them to 12-13 overall this season and 7-10 in Gulf South Conference play with only one regular season game remaining. Union improves to 18-7 overall and will remain on top of the GSC standings with a 13-4 conference record.
Union hit eight of its three pointers in the first half to lead 40-30 at halftime. Kelsey Risner and LaTesa McLaughlin recorded double-digit scoring numbers in the first half and combined for five of the eight Bulldog first half three pointers. Risner ended the game with 24 total points. Amy Philamlee tallied 18 points, while LaTesa ended with 15.
Three Tiger's also broke the double digit scoring mark.
Nikkia Jordan led UWA with 19 points.
Tamya Thompson and
Jamie Gunter both ended with 12 points.
West Alabama women's basketball will now return home to host North Alabama in its last game in Pruitt Hall of the 2013 regular season. The game is set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
