Natalie Perry just two shots to notch two goals in each half to defeat Montevallo 4-1 on Friday.
"Natalie handled herself in a positive way tonight," said UWA head women's soccer coach
Graeme Orr. "She has been frustrated with playing time, nut tonight she remained very composed and competed very hard for us."
West Alabama (2-1) overcame a 1-1 first half stalemate with three second half goals against the Falcons (0-2-1). The Tigers finished 4-for-8 in shots on goal.
Perry put the Tigers on the board first with a goal in the 22' and then again in the 65'. Fellow juniors
Nicki Gears and
Lydia Sutcliffe recorded their third goals of the season in the second half. For Gears, it was her third goal in two matches that proved the game winner.
Montevallo's Jade Pennock tallied the equalizer in the 30'.
Freshman goalkeeper
Issy Foster totaled nine saves to mark her first complete shutout of her college career.
West Alabama now remain on the road to take on Delta State in a non-conference match on Sunday. The match is set for 1 p.m.
"Although it is not a conference match for us, it will be a great preview of the conference for us," said Orr. "We gained good momentum tonight and we expect it to pay off for us against a tough Delta State team."
