Richards' Hat-Trick Downs Tigers

FLORENCE, Ala. – Gulf South Conference women's soccer scoring leader, Chloe Richards, tallied a hat-trick to lead North Alabama to 3-0 victory over West Alabama Sunday.  
  
North Alabama entered the match ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II South Region Poll now improves to 11-2-1 overall and 8-2 in the GSC. West Alabama, who entered the match ranked fourth in the region, drops to 12-3-1 and 7-2-1. UNA jumps the Tigers to second place in the league standings. UWA is now third.  

Richards' game-winning goal came in the 12th minute on a penalty kick. The other two scores fell in the second half on assists by Erica Cervi and Alyssa Bova. Richards now owns 25 season goals as the league leader.

The Tigers matched UNA's 15 shots, but only two landed on-goal. Rachel Beninati made two saves for the Lions to improve to 8-1. Issy Foster posted her season high of seven saves, but fell to 10-3-1. Lydia Sutcliffe and Mara DeLuca each tallied one shot on-goal for UWA.

West Alabama women's soccer has only two matches remaining in its regular season, beginning with West Georgia Wednesday in Carrollton, Ga., at 5:30 p.m. The season will then conclude against Valdosta State on Sunday at home in Tiger Stadium at 1 p.m.

UWA has already clinched a spot in the GSC tournament, currently as the third seed. Valdosta State is first at 8-1-1 in the conference. West Georgia, 3-6-1, is still battling for a place in the post season tournament.
