Tigers Draw with Blazers; Earn Fourth Seed in GSC Tournament

VALDOSTA, Ga. – After two overtimes, West Alabama and Valdosta State each closed the 2015 regular season in a scoreless draw in Gulf South Conference women's soccer action Saturday.

West Alabama moves to 10-5-1 overall and secures the fourth seed in the GSC Tournament with a 8-3-1 conference record. Valdosta State ends its season without an appearance in the tournament at 4-10-3 and 3-7-2.

The Blazers out shot UWA 15-8, but it was the Tigers who posted the most shots on goal leading 6-4. Six different Tigers tallied a shots on-goal, while UWA head coach Graeme Orr worked in 22 of his players into the match. Rianna Gurvitz led with 1-for-2 shots on-frame. Shelby Jennings led VSU 1-for-3.

Issy Foster (10-5-1) made four saves to pick up her eighth shutout of the season, surpassing her previous single-season record of seven shutouts as a freshman. McCall Gardner (3-5-3) finished with six saves.  

"Tonight was an excellent team performance," said Orr. "We utilized the whole squad, which you need to do going into playoff time. Valdosta State is an excellent side, so to come away from home and get a positive result is a very good thing."

West Alabama women's soccer will host the first round of the tournament when it takes on the fifth seed, West Georgia on Tuesday.
