Badgers Hand Tigers Loss in Home Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Jennifer Clark scored 20 points and Spring Hill held West Alabama scoreless for almost six minutes in the fourth quarter on the way to a 63-50 women's college basketball win over the Tigers Saturday at Pruitt Hall Gym.

The win was the second for Spring Hill over West Alabama in eight days, leaving the Badgers 2-0 and the Tigers 0-2.

"We are nowhere close to being a team," UWA head coach Rusty Cram said. "I am disappointed with our lack of intensity and execution."

West Alabama led 16-12 after the first quarter and 27-26 at the half, with the Tigers biggest lead of the game being six points with just 17 seconds left in the first period. The Badgers outscored UWA 37-23 the rest of the way to secure the win.

"We are still trying to figure out who we are, but we have no clue," Cram said. "We are just feeling our way through."

Spring Hill scored 20 points off a season-low 19 West Alabama turnovers in a game where the score was tied three times and the lead changed hands four times. The Badgers biggest lead was 14 points midway through the fourth quarter.

Alishia Drayton Lewis was the only other Badger to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Camry Johnson collected eight rebounds for Spring Hill.

Ariel Wilson was the only UWA player to score in double figures, finishing with 12 points despite shooting just 4-of-11 from the floor. The Tigers converted just 17-of-49 field goal attempts (34 percent). Chloe Culpepper had nine rebounds for the Tigers.

West Alabama will spend Thanksgiving week in San Juan at the Meet Puerto Rico Division II Basketball Classic. The Tigers will play Rio Piedras on Wednesday, Pittsburgh State on Thursday and Pontificial Catholic on Friday.
