Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 1 seed West Florida brought an end to West Alabama women's soccer's season on Friday, defeating the No. 4 seed Tigers 5-0 in the Gulf South Conference Semifinals at the UWF Soccer Complex.
The Argos continue to the GSC Championship match with a 15-4 overall record, while the Tigers finish with an 11-7-1 mark.
West Florida broke the scoreless tie in the 33
rd minute as Emily Vogler finished off a Sara Helgadottir corner kick with a header into the back of the net, netting her ninth goal of the season to give UWF a 1-0 lead.
The Argos improved their advantage to 2-0 just before the half after Kaley Ward hit Elizabeth Vickers with pass inside the box in the 45
th minute. Vickers finished the scoring play to pick up her first goal of the season.
Marjorie Boilesen drew a foul inside the penalty area after a shot attempt to start off the second half, setting herself up with a penalty kick opportunity. Boilesen took advantage of the one-on-one set piece, netting her 11
th goal of the year to put the Argos up 3-0 in the 52
nd minute.
Six minutes later, Vogler and Helgadottir teamed up for their second set-piece score of the night. On a near identical play, Vogler scored on another header from a Helgadottir corner in the 58
th minute, improving the Argos lead to 4-0.
Camille King scored the final goal of the night, converting Taylor Burkhart's pass to the near post into the Argos' fifth score of the match. The goal was King's second of the season.
Katelyn Burkhart (14-2-0) earned the win, making one save on three shots faced to pick up her fifth shutout on the year.
Issy Foster (11-7-1) recorded five saves on 16 shots faced in the semifinal loss.
