Tigers fall to MC in first round of GSC Championships

CLINTON, Miss. – The first round of the Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer Championship didn't go the way the West Alabama Tigers hoped as they fell 5-1 to the Mississippi College in the season ending loss.

UWA concludes the season with a 9-8 overall record and an 8-6 mark in the GSC. MC improves to 14-2-1 and boasts a 12-2 GSC record.

The Choctaws amassed a 3-0 before Megan McGettigan scored her second goal of the season at the 55:27 mark to get the Tigers on the board. However, that goal would be the last gasp for the Tigers as MC put the game away with two more scores for the 5-1 final.

Mississippi College, ranked No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, outshot UWA 18-10 with all 10 Tiger shots coming from a different player.

Emma Claire Furman led the way for MC with two early goals.

The Choctaws advance to face the winner between sixth seed Christian Brothers and third seeded West Florida.
