Tigers Blank Saint Leo in Women’s Soccer

MEMPHIS, Tenn.Anele Komani's first career goal at the 74th minute was all West Alabama would need on the way to its first women's soccer win of the season, a 1-0 victory Sunday over Saint Leo at Signaigo Field on the campus of Christian Brothers University
 
Komani's goal came off a ball played by TeMia Pride on a Tiger counter-attack. It was UWA's first goal of the season. The Tigers were held scoreless by Tusculum in the season opener Friday night.
 
West Alabama improved to 1-1 with the victory. Saint Leo dropped to 1-1.
 
"All the credit goes to the ladies," UWA coach Graeme Orr said. "They applied the defending principles today throughout the whole match.
 
"The clean sheet allowed us the freedom to connect passes and create good attacks," Orr said. "They will take confidence from the result going into conference play."
 
Saint Leo outshot UWA, 13-8, and had four corner kicks to none for The Tigers. The Tigers had two shots on goal, the Lions 6.

West Alabama remains on the road, facing Gulf South Conference foe Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi on Friday. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. Saint Leo is host to Embry- Riddle on Sept. 16.
