Tiger Women Open GSC Play Thursday

The University of West Alabama women's basketball team opens the Gulf South Conference portion of its 2018-19 schedule by traveling to Cleveland, Mississippi to play Delta State on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
 
West Alabama comes into the game with a 2-4 record after defeating Oakwood, 80-52, Monday at Pruitt Hall Gym on the UWA campus. Delta State is 3-2 and comes into the contest with a three-game winning streak.
 
The Lady Statesmen lead the series, 49-8, but West Alabama has a modest two-game win streak against DSU, winning 64-51 in Cleveland and 63-60 in Livingston last season.
 
Chloe Culpepper leads UWA scorers at 10.3 points per game, followed by J'Nyiah Daniels and Tazsa Garrett-Hammett at 8.7. Garrett-Hammett, the 2018 GSC Freshman of the Year, leads Tiger rebounders at 6.2 per game.
 
Zyaire Ewing is the leading scorer for the Lady Statesmen at 13.8 points per game. Frederica Haywood averages a double-double with 12.0 points and 11.0 rebounds. Alondrea Rush is chipping in 10.4 points per game.
