Tiger Women Share Bahama House Crossover With Three NCAA Tournament Teams

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team opens the 2018-19 regular season Saturday at the Bahama House Regional Crossover in a four-team field that features three 2017-18 NCAA Division II Tournament participants.
 
The Tigers open the event by playing Eckerd College. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. central at the ICI Center on the campus of Embry-Riddle University. The game is also the season opener for Eckerd.
 
The Tigers will play Embry-Riddle Sunday at 11 a.m. Embry-Riddle will play Clark-Atlanta in the second game on Saturday. Clark-Atlanta and Eckerd will conclude the event on Sunday.
 
West Alabama finished 14-15 last season, 10-10 in Gulf South Conference play. Eckerd was 22-8, 15-5 in Sunshine State Conference action. Clark-Atlanta was 20-9 overall and 15-3 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games, while the hosting Eagles were 24-8 and 15-5 in the SSC.
 
Both Eckerd and Embry Riddle advanced to the NCAA Tournament, with Embry-Riddle defeating Eckerd, 57-54, in first round action before losing to Union of the GSC, 74-59, in the second round. Clark-Atlanta also qualified for the NCAA Tournament, but was ousted by Union, 94-50, in the first round.
 
West Alabama lost in a road exhibition to NCAA Division I New Orleans, 84-64, last Saturday. Embry-Riddle defeated the Music City Icons, 75-64, in an exhibition last Friday.
 
The Tigers return the 2017-18 GSC Freshman of the Year, Tazsa Garrett-Hammett, who led UWA in scoring and rebounding last season, averaging 14.4 points and 8.4 rebounds. J'Nyiah Daniels also returns after averaging 10.2 points per game.
 
The Tigers' first home game is Tuesday when Fort Valley State comes to Pruitt Hall Gym for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
