Tigers Win Third Straight Tennis Match, Trounce Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The West Alabama men's tennis team had little trouble winning its third consecutive match on Wednesday, trouncing Tuskegee, 9-0, at the Pepsico Tennis Courts.

The Tigers are 3-1 heading into a Friday match at home against West Florida (1-0), currently the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II. Match time is 2 p.m. at the Vaughan Tennis Complex on the UWA campus. Admission is free.

After cruising through doubles, the Tigers then polished off Tuskegee in singles by winning every match in straight sets.

"This was a good match for us today," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We are looking forward to the opportunity to play the top team in the nation when West Florida visits Friday."

Julius Kaverinen and Linus Holthey took care of Brandon Sewell and Jabari Hargrove, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles, while Nicolai Jochamowitz and Erik Nordblom beat Jalen Law and Jabari Cole, 8-0 at No. 2. Anton Lof and Andrii Stratiienko made it a clean sweep at doubles with an 8-0 win over Tyler Mitchell and Rithy Sry.

Kaverinen, Nordblom, Holthey, Stratiienko, Lof and Jochamowitz were winners at No. 1 through six singles, respectively. Stratiienko, Lof and Jochamowitz were 6-0, 6-0 winners at Nos. 4 through 6.
