LIVINGSTON – The 21st-ranked University of West Alabama men's tennis team made quick work of Gulf South opponent Montevallo at the Vaughan Tennis Center on Wednesday, defeating the Falcons, 7-2.
The win improves West Alabama to 9-3 overall, 5-1 in GSC play. Montevallo dropped to 10-4 and 2-3.
West Alabama won all three doubles courts with 32nd-ranked Julius Kaverinen and Linus Holthey claiming an 8-4 win at No. 1, while Andrii Stratiienko and Henrik Sinkko took No. 2 doubles by the same score. Anton Lof and Erik Nordblom won at No. 3 by a 9-7 score.
West Alabama won four of six singles points, with Holthey, Nordblom, Stratiienko and Nicolai Jochamowitz winning at No. 2, 3, 4 and 6, respectively. No. 11 Kaverinen lost for just the second time this season at No. 1.
Both teams continue in GSC play on Sunday, with West Alabama hosting Lee at 10 a.m. and Montevallo traveling to Delta State.
