LIVINGSTON – West Alabama's men and women's tennis teams both coasted to Gulf South Conference tennis victories on Sunday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex, both notching 8-1 wins over Lee.
The 21st-ranked West Alabama men improved their record to 10-3 overall, 6-1 in GSC play. UWA's women are 8-4 and 4-3. The Lee men dropped to 8-6 and 2-5, while the Lady Flames are 7-5 and 4-4.
"It was great to see the women rebound well with a great attitude and effort coming off our last match," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "The men continued to mature and put in a solid showing across the board against a very tough Lee team.
"We are having some success and folks on campus and in the community are buying in to what we are trying to do in our program," Beaman said. "For instance, we need to say thanks to (UWA football) Coach Brett Gilliland and his family for feeding our teams today."
West Alabama's women swept the doubles points and won five of six singles courts. The men swept the singles matches and won two of three doubles points.
After taking the week for spring break, the UWA men and women play Valdosta State on Saturday in Pensacola, Florida.
