Tigers Cruise by CBU in GSC Men’s Tennis

LIVINGSTON – The 26th-ranked West Alabama men's tennis team won for the ninth time in its last 11 matches, coasting by Christian Brothers 8-1 in a Gulf South Conference match Thursday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
West Alabama improved its record to 12-4 overall, 7-2 in GSC play. Christian Brothers dropped to 6-16 and 1-8.
 
Julius Kaverinen and Linus Holthey, ranked No. 19 nationally in doubles, won at No. 1 by an 8-5 score over Javier Saez and Lorenzo Maccarini. Anton Lof and Erik Nordblom won at No. 2 doubles, defeating Atilio Flores and Andres Calzacorta, 8-5. Nicolai Jochamowitz and Honorio Fernandez took care of Abel Kim and Nick Cotros, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
 
Christian Brothers lone victory came at No. 1 singles, where Maccarini defeated Holthey 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Holthey normally plays at No. 2 for the Tigers, but 25th-ranked Kaverinen was given a day off from singles play.
 
Andrii Stratiienko downed Flores 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, while Fernandez defeated Saez 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 and Jochamowitz beat Calzacorta 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4. Henrik Sinkko and Lof were winners at No. 5 and 6, respectively, with Sinkko beating Kim 6-0, 6-1 and Lof handling Cotros 6-0, 6-0.
 
West Alabama remains in GSC play at North Alabama on Saturday. CBU travels to West Florida on Friday.
