Tigers Fall in GSC Tournament to UWF

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The first round of the Gulf South Conference Women's Championship Tournament didn't have the outcome the fans who sat through the cold temperatures in Tiger Stadium would've liked as the University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team fell 3-1 to the West Florida Argonauts Tuesday afternoon.

UWA falls to 12-5-1 on the year while West Florida moves to 12-5 this season.

"Congratulations to West Florida and their coaching staff. I thought we had the better of the play first half and them second," said Head coach Graeme Orr. "Unfortunately, we weren't able to add to our lead before half time and momentum swing late in second half. The ladies can hold their head very high. After a heavy loss in the first conference game, they went on a nine-game undefeated run. I am proud of their efforts and attitude the last few months. To win 10 games in the GSC is not an easy task and they can be very proud of that. Thanks must go out to my staff Morgan, Annie, Ellie and the Athletic Trainer Mollie. Lastly, I want to thank the seniors Abby, TeMia, Bailee, Megan and Aleah because without their drive and experience we wouldn't be in this position."

The Tigers held the lead for the majority of the contest when TeMia Pride scored her 51st career goal at 16' and UWA held that lead through halftime.

It was in the 67' when Kaila Armstrong scored the first goal for the Argos to tie the contest. Peyton Peffers scored the go ahead at 79' and just moments later at 80' Isabella Garcia-Salas iced the match and gave UWF the final 3-1 advantage.

West Florida outshot UWA 12-8 and won the shot on goal battle 9-5. Anele Komani took the most UWA shots with three and Pride had the most SOGs going 2-for-2 with her shots.

Jenni Aarniva (10-4-1) finished with six saves.

West Alabama will await the NCAA South Regional rankings which release tomorrow before putting definite end to the 2019 season.
