Tigers Drop Two to Open Gulf Shores Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala.– It was a sluggish start for the West Alabama Softball team offensively, but day was highlighted by the first home run in the UWA career of Mckinley Parris as the Tigers dropped their first two games to open the Gulf Coast Invitational Friday.
 
Parris, a freshman rfrom Jacksonville, Alabama, smashed the homerun during the second inning of 3-1 loss to #4 North Georgia in the second game of the day's double header. The third baseman finished the day 2-fo-4 from the plate.
 
Nora Keehn (0-1) pitched a complete game against UNG and finished with a pair of strikeouts while allowing seven hits.
 
In the first game of the day, Eckerd College grabbed a 4-0 victory over the Tigers. Kendall Johnson went 2-for-3 in her at-bats in the season opener while Hailey Best, Kacy Noland and Lee Lee Parker all stole bases in the contest. 
 
Parker later snagged a stolen base against North Georgia to conclude the day with two base path thefts. 
 
Noland went 4.2 innings in relief with five strikeouts. Kamree Lay (0-1) went 1.1 innings in the start with a strikeout, three hits and two runs surrendered.
 
UWA returns to action early tomorrow with a game against Tuskegee slated for a 9 a.m. start. with a matchup against the University of Mobile to follow at 11:30 a.m.
