Tiger Men Stay Undefeated With Win Over Mocs

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Alabama men's tennis team remained unbeaten by defeating Florida Southern, 6-1, Sunday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of West Florida.
 
The Tigers, ranked No. 8 in the South Region, improved to 5-0. Florida Southern is 0-4.
 
West Alabama claimed the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and 2. Henrik Sinkko and Ilia Dehodiuk opened the match by defeating Brian Pham and Hikaru Nagoshi, 6-2, at No. 2. Julius Kaverinen and Linus Holthey then clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Oscar Sohl and John Sakellarides at No. 1 doubles.
 
Kaverinen, Holthey, Ilari Vesanen, Erik Nordblom and Anton Lof all claimed straight set singles victories as the Tigers won on every court but No. 2.
 
"This was a good performance," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Now we need to put in a week of hard work before hosting the defending national champions Sunday."
 
The Tigers play Columbus State Sunday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. The Cougars are 3-1 and ranked No. 1 in the nation. Admission to Sunday's match is free.
