No. 6 CSU Downs UWA Women, 5-2

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama managed a pair of singles wins as sixth-ranked Columbus State defeated the Tigers, 5-2, Sunday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
The Cougars improved to 4-2. West Alabama is 1-3.
 
With the doubles point hanging in the balance, Candice Paya and Natalia Kattah Paz defeated Liliana Araucz and Daryna Hukasian, 7-5, at No. 3 to take the point for the Cougars. UWA's Georgia Salom and Andrea Tomassone beat Marleen Tilgner and Beatriz Lopez, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles.
 
Salom beat Luise Sachs 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Tomassone defeated Noa Davico, 8-3, at No. 5 after the match had been decided in the Cougars favor.
 
"This was another solid showing against a great team. We had chances for the doubles point, and at 1, 2 and 3 singles, plus great wins at 4 and 5," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "I really hope this match showed our women how good we are on the verge of being heading into the UWF match."
 
The Tigers play at No. 8 West Florida Sunday at 10 a.m.
